Islander

35 minute short film - 2022

Islander is a documentary I made by talking to residents of Prudence Island, a small island in the middle of Narragansett Bay. The island is filled with vacationers in the summer, but from September to May it’s a quiet community of about 150 people, many of whom have lived there for generations.

In recent years the year-round population has risen dramatically, and housing prices have risen with it. Islander explores the changes this brings: how a small community functions when new people enter it, how gentrification plays out on a financial and social level, and how infrastructure can reshape a community.
